Duterte Visit Japan Coast Guard in Yokohama City

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte watched a capability demonstration by the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) during his visit to its 3rd Regional Headquarters in Yokohama City.
In an interview right after the demonstration, the President said that joint patrols by the Philippines and Japan may likewise be visible in the West Philippine Sea.

“Yes, within our territorial waters but not the sea itself. But if they want, wala namang problem. I do not think China would stop us; just going there and making a cruise,” he said.
The JCG is currently providing trainings to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) as part of the Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project (MSCIP) of the Philippines for PCG, which is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The project involves the construction of 10 multi-role response vessels (MRRV) from Japan to the Philippines. (RTVM)
