How to Join the Philippine Coast Guard? Qualifications, Requirements, and Application procedures

Since 2012, the Philippine Coast Guard or PCG revealed its campaign for massive recruitment as it lacks active personnel to serve the 7,107 islands of the country.

Captain Anelito Gabisan, Public Information Officer of the PCG-District Central Visayas, said they are targeting to hire more than 1,000 personnel every year. He also said they plan to double their recruitment in the next five years so they would reach an average of 25,000 personnel.

“Kulang na man talaga lahat pati sa PNP (Philippine National Police) kahit sa AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) and we need more personnel,” Gabisan told The FREEMAN in a phone interview back in 2012.

The PCG currently has almost 5,000 personnel.

News : PCG Rescue 56 Passengers from submerged boat off Boracay

PCG: A total of 56 passengers were separately rescued yesterday by the Coast Guard and civilian volunteers from a submerged motor boat near the coast of Boracay.

MB GP Brosis encountered engine failure 500 meters southeast off Boracay Island and later took in water from huge waves prevailing at the area.
Aurora Zayco, a passenger of the ill-fated boat, called Napoleon Seasport for assistance. Said report reached the Coast Guard in Caticlan through ENS ARTHUR EGINA PCG (Ret).
Immediately, Coast Guard Station (CGS) Caticlan dispatched its Deployable Response Teams (DRT) together with personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Boracay to conduct investigation and rescue operation.

A speed boat dispatched by Napoleon Seasport with Special Operations Unit-Western Visayas onboard rescued 13 passengers that were immediately brought to the shoreline of Sitio Bulabog.
18 passengers were rescued by passing M/Bca Sean and Lance and were safely disembarked at Sitio Tabon.

The remaining 25 passengers were rescued by M/Bca Senior San Jose.

The survivors were brought to Don Ciriaco S Terrol Memorial Hospital in Brgy. Balabag, Boracay, Malay, Aklan for medical assessment and treatment. They were later found to be in good physical condition.

MB GP Brosis, owned and operated by Pablito I. Visca Jr., was navigating from Sitio Tabon to Sta Fe, Romblon when the incident occurred.

Investigation revealed that the crew immediately called the attention of nearby motor boats to tow it to Sta Fe, Romblon but was later battered by big waves.

CGS Caticlan personnel advised the boat captain/owner to file marine protest.
